Dr Surya Tiwari
Dr Surya Tiwari

Assistant Professor, KFUPM

Dr. Surya Prakash Tiwari received the B.Sc. degree in Mathematics, Physics in 2005, M.Sc. in Physics from India in 2007 from Gorakhpur University, India. Subsequently, he received M.Tech. degree in Remote Sensing & GIS from SRM University, India in 2009. He completed his Ph.D. in the Department of Ocean Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) in 2013. Subsequently he worked at the City College City University of New York, USA as a postdoctoral fellow during 2013-2014. From 2013-2017, Dr. Tiwari worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the King Abdullah University of Science & Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia and developed several algorithms for ocean color remote sensing applications, mainly for the water quality and visibility detection in the Red Sea open and coastal waters.

Dr. Tiwari has more than four years of international postdoctoral research experience with several awards such as Postdoctoral fellowship supported by US 2013, International Ocean Color Coordinating Group (IOCCG) scholarship in the year 2014, HTRA fellowship IIT Madras for Ph.D., NASA travel grant, and a best mini group project award PORSEC-2012.

His present research interests include the assessment, management, and monitoring of environmental impacts in the land, coastal, and marine environments using numerical modeling, optics, earth observations, AI, and satellite remote sensing. His research interests also include studying the dust impacts on the marine productivity, phytoplankton blooms, oil spills, biotope mapping, shoreline change detection, land use and land cover, marine pollution, and water quality parameters in the Arabian Gulf and the Red Sea waters.

Based on his research work, he has published 20 peer-reviewed research papers (8 papers as the first author) in the top-ranked international journals, eight conference proceedings papers and presented more than 30 papers at different national and international conferences. Dr. Tiwari is currently working as a Associate Professor in the Center for Environment & Marine Studies, Research Institute, KFUPM and taking care of the remote sensing, data, and modeling studies.
